Michael Michelsen

Biography

Michael graduated from Brigham Young University in December 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Master of Accountancy. He began his career at Hansen, Barnett & Maxwell P.C. (HBM) in Salt Lake City and earned his license as a Certified Public Accountant in October 1996. He was promoted to Audit Partner in HBM at the beginning of 2009 and served on HBM’s Executive Committee as the Chief Financial Officer. In September 2013, HBM merged into Eide Bailly LLP, and since the merger, Michael has served as an Audit Partner at Eide Bailly. He is also currently serving as an Adjunct Instructor of Accounting at Utah Valley University.

During his over 30 years in public accounting, Michael has worked with nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, healthcare organizations, and privately held companies. He has also performed System and Organization Controls (SOC) 1 engagements for service providers in a variety of industries. While a partner at Eide Bailly, Michael has served terms on Eide Bailly’s Single Audit Technical Issues Committee and Eide Bailly’s Government Industry Advisory Committee.

Michael is also active in the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountant (UACPA) and serves on UACPA’s Leadership Council, Audit Committee, Nominating and Awards Committee, and State and Local Government Update Task Force. His also currently the Board Chair for the Utah CPA Foundation, the charitable foundation of the UACPA.

In his free time, Michael enjoys travelling with his wife, Nancy, and spending time with their children and grandchildren.
