Biography

Natalie Bennion holds a BS in Public Health with a dual emphasis in epidemiology and health promotion and a Masters of Public Health from Brigham Young University. She is currently a Lecturer at Utah Valley University. She has previously taught undergraduate and graduate-level courses at BYU including statistical computing in epidemiology - undergraduate level, infectious disease - graduate level (TA), and beginning and intermediate swim.

Natalie has worked with the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) in the community outreach and prevention education center (COPE) educating individuals of all ages on cancer prevention at worksites, schools, and religious organizations. Natalie has participated in public health advocacy summits in D.C. regarding gun safety and opioid misuse policies in Utah. She has additionally worked with policymakers regarding child sexual assault laws in Utah. Natalie has worked in the Cancer Control and Population Sciences, Kirchhoff Research Group at HCI as a research assistant and examined the incidence of subsequent HPV-related cancers among adolescents and young adults.

Natalie's current research focus is on using geographic analyses including spatial analysis, network analyst, spatial interpolation, inverse distance weighting, cluster detection, space-time analysis, and origin-cost destination matrix to examine food environments, mother-child nutrition, and accessibility to care.
