Awards

Nomination for CHPS Faculty Senate Service Awards

Utah Valley University - January 21, 2025

I accepted the nomination for the CHPS Faculty Senate Service Award based on my work developing NURS 495R and NURS 441G Interdisciplinary Study Abroad courses in St. Kitts and Nevis from Fall 2022 to Fall 2024. Through my doctoral research on nursing in St. Kitts and Nevis, I built collaborative relationships with the Ministry of Health and National Disaster Management Agency. This led to a partnership with Dr. Audrey Snyder, my dissertation committee chair and a nationally recognized Advanced Practice Nurse with 15+ years of study abroad experience in St. Kitts and extensive humanitarian work.
In May 2024, I designed and recruited ten UVU students for our inaugural study abroad course, which fulfilled BSN/elective credits and served as a designated UVU Global Intercultural and Service-Learning course. The program provided meaningful service projects benefiting UVU students, St. Kitts and Nevis health agencies, Intermountain Health, and our local community. During the course I taught over 6 classes on neonatal resuscitation and stabilization to the nurses and physicians in St. Kitts and Nevis. In addition, I organized the students into teams where they engaged in numerous community service projects. The students and I helped the disaster management agency recruit participants for a research study they were conducting on disaster preparedness. The students also taught hurricane awareness in 3 local schools, and stop the bleed emergency hemorrhage treatment to local community members in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Nomination for CHPS Scholarly Works Award

Utah Valley University - January 21, 2025

I was nominated for a CHPS Faculty Senate Scholarly works award for my research on the nurses in St. Kitts and Nevis, and the work of humanitarian nurses. In the past year I have submitted 4 manuscripts for publication. Two have been accepted, and two are still under review. Because I can only submit an application for one award from the Faculty Senate, even though I was nominated for two, I only submitted an application for the Service award because I felt our international service inst. Kitts was more impactful.

iAspire

Intermountain Healthcare - November 5, 2024

I was awarded the highest level in Intermountain Health's iAspire program, which recognizes Registered Nurses who achieve personal growth and demonstrate nursing excellence. To earn this distinction, I completed activities in four domains of excellence and earned 30 continuing education hours, including 12 from my specialty area. I obtained and maintained my national specialty certification, and served as an evidence based practice mentor.
