Biography

Jared S. Pendleton received his Ph.D. in history from the University of California, Riverside (UCR), where he studied modern Russian history, Sino-Soviet relations, nineteenth-century U.S. history, and Cold War diplomacy. He holds an M.A. in history from UCR, an M.A. in national security and strategic studies with an emphasis on the Asia-Pacific region from the United States Naval War College, and a B.A. in history and Asian studies from Weber State University. Dr. Pendleton has been with the Department of State for 20+ years, serving as a Political Officer in the Foreign Service, with postings in Europe and Asia, and in the Civil Service as a training and education specialist. He is now posted as a Senior Advisor at the State Department's Foreign Service Institute, where he provides policy advice and support for pre-deployment foreign language, diplomatic tradecraft, area studies, and China-related training and programming for U.S. government foreign affairs professionals.
