Biography
Daniel Charon is a choreographer, educator, performer, and arts leader with more than 30 years of experience in the dance field. From 2013–2025, he served as Artistic Director of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company in Salt Lake City, where he created numerous original works, commissioned and presented work by nationally and internationally recognized artists, and helped advance the company’s artistic and educational mission.
As a performer, Daniel spent 15 years based in New York City, dancing with Doug Varone and Dancers from 1999–2010 and the Limón Dance Company from 1996–1999. His performance career also includes work with the Metropolitan Opera, Doug Elkins and Friends, Aquila Theatre Company, Opera Colorado, Minnesota Opera, and other dance, theatre, and opera organizations.
Daniel’s choreography has been presented by dance companies, universities, and opera organizations across the country. His creative practice frequently explores the intersection of movement, technology, storytelling, and human connection. He also works in video, projection, and multimedia design and maintains a freelance career teaching and choreographing.
As an educator, Daniel has taught contemporary and modern dance, choreography, improvisation, partnering, movement for camera, and related subjects to students ranging from emerging dancers to seasoned professionals. He holds an MFA in Choreography and Integrated Media from California Institute of the Arts and a BFA in Dance from the North Carolina School of the Arts. His teaching emphasizes curiosity, physical investigation, individual artistry, and helping students develop both technical skill and a distinctive artistic voice.
