"Jonathan is an exceptional mentor for both students and instructors at UVU. He is always striving to find the most effective way of instructing his students. He creates real-world content that effectively assess student understanding, ensuring that learning is both practical and relevant. Course improvements are research and industry based often developed through learning circles, teaching professional development workshops at UVU, and current industry experiences. These changes prepare students for current careers, equipping them with the skills needed in today's job market. Additionally, he facilitates dynamic classroom instruction which motivates students to succeed. Jonathan knows that students’ schedules are varied and complex, so he frequently schedules time to meet with his students and faculty (mentee(s)) in the evenings outside of scheduled course or office hours. He constantly demonstrates a genuine commitment to their success. He is a teaching mentor for adjunct faculty. In this role, he creates content and provides weekly support to these UVU instructors so they can be successful in instructing their students. Jonathan's dedication to effective teaching in these many areas makes him a deserving candidate for the CET Dedicated Teaching Award."
The Best Flexible Course Design award is given to courses that exemplify sound principles of course design. Courses nominated for this award should be detailed in their orientation, varied in their activities and assessments, rigorous, and strongly situated towards student success. Judges will use a rubric to evaluate nominated courses.
This series is a professional development initiative offered by UVU to equip participants with the knowledge, tools, and resources to better serve the university's diverse student body and community. The Foundations of Inclusion Award is a way to celebrate and acknowledge individuals who have actively engaged with the university's commitment to inclusion by completing the workshop series.
These awards are determined by three CET faculty committees and one CET staff committee. The full-time faculty nominee must have been employed at UVU for at least three (3) consecutive academic years. For the Faculty Teaching Excellence Award, the nominee must be teaching at least 50% load for CET departments.
The Faculty Teaching Excellence award is based primarily upon student evaluations. Additional considerations are given for improved and new teaching pedagogy, development of new courses and may include conversion of existing courses to hybrid or online delivery, etc. This is beyond the regular expectation of keeping course material up-to-date.
The purpose of the Faculty Senate Faculty Excellence Award is to recognize full-time and adjunct faculty who have made significant contributions to UVU's mission through demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. Through this award, UVU intends_
1. To publicly acknowledge the achievements of its faculty members in creating an academically engaged environment at UVU.
2. To demonstrate to the community the exemplary standards of academic professionalism to which the faculty members of UVU are dedicated
3. To encourage faculty within UVU to pursue the highest levels of excellence in every aspect of their work (consistent with the best of academic traditions).
