Biography
Matthew J. Larson is a US historian specializing in the Civil War era. His first book, From Blood to Ink: How the Press Covered the Gettysburg Campaign (University of Georgia Press, 2026), explores how political bias influenced newspaper coverage of the battle, misshaping interpretations of its significance both then and generations later. He is currently researching a second book project in which he aims to recount the high-stakes drama that was the Civil War summer of 1863 and how it shaped the conflict in both history and memory.
Dr. Larson’s university courses include American History, US History to 1877, and World History from 1500 to Present. He has taught at the university and secondary levels in both Missouri and Utah. Off campus, he enjoys traveling, hiking, and trying out oddball restaurants with his family.
