Biography

I was born in Alaska and mostly raised in California, living in five of the western states during my younger years. I attended college on a baseball scholarship, but had an injury that resulted in leaving college. I moved to Park City, Utah in 1975 and worked in the construction industry. I joined the Park City Fire Department in 1978 as a volunteer. Two years later I was hired on as a full-time employee. Retired from Park City Fire Service District in 2009 at a Chief level position. I spent the majority of my career pursuing education and training opportunities. Roughly half of my career was spent as the Training Officer and Health and Safety Officer for the department.

In 1984 I joined the Utah State Fire Training, which is now the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy (UFRA) as an adjunct instructor. During that time I had the opportunity to meet and train firefighters throughout the state of Utah. My passion has always been training and to see firefighters of all generations succeed. In 2010 I joined UFRA as a full-time program manager setting up and delivering training for departments throughout the state. In 2013 my position was changed to curriculum development. My current position has allowed me to have more impact on the training and education of firefighters in Utah. I have great appreciation of UFRA, knowing where we started and where we are today, becoming one of the premiere fire training agencies in the U.S.
