Biography

Agustin Diaz, or more commonly known as Tino, was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. He comes from a strong heritage of AfroMiskito peoples in Honduras, coastal Andean traditions from Ecuador, and rural Galicia in Spain. Tino is the TRIO Educational Opportunity Center Director and works closely with the UVU Veterans Center, Women's Success Center, Multicultural Student Services, Wasatch Campus in Heber City and the San Juan Foundation near the Navajo Nation. He is also a PhD student with the University of Utah in the Education, Culture, and Society program with a research interest in student protest and educator social movements, ethics of relationality and indigenous epistemology, and inclusion/diversity policy in higher education. He works closely with activist organizations and community organizers for immigration rights and indigenous land protection and finally, he is a co-parent to two sons Luca and Matteo who love firefighters, baseball, the Black Panther, Miles Morales, and Captain Marvel.
