Abstract
This research focuses on business failure in the U.S restaurant industry. Specifically, the project focuses on the bankruptcy prediction models and discusses the current bankruptcy prediction models based on recent years’ financial data and ratios of the U.S. restaurant firms. Analysis of the This is done in the context of the pros and cons of proposed models to determine the appropriate factors or failure phenomenon in cases involving restaurants that have filed for bankruptcy under Chapter 11. A sample of restaurant companies that filed for bankruptcy between 2000 and 2019 will be analyzed through the Form 8-K reported in EDGAR with the Stock Exchange Commission (SEC). By applying financial ratios retrieved from the financial information and operations this study will determine the best fit model as a preferred method for predicting restaurant firm failure.

The finding and results will be submitted to 2021 UCUR and NCUR then to peer-review academic Journal in the hospitality area.

One of the biggest challenges that higher education faces is to improve student retention
(Alhohani, 2016_ Kerby, 2015_ Mah, 2016_ Lin, 2012_ Tight, 2020). Student retention has become a critical indicator for academic performance and enrolment management. The purpose of this study is to identify why drop out from the course/program, why they transfer or leave college or university, and to follow up with intervention options and appropriate strategies to enhance student retention. We utilize Qualtrics, web-based survey software, to create surveys, collect and store data, and produce the descriptive statistical analysis. We collect 201 samples from business management students at Utah Valley University register for spring and summer semester 2020. The collected data include demographics such as student study history, gender, academic level, GPA, marital status, ethnicity, total earned credit, job situation (full or part-time), and institutional factors regarding the dropout. We apply the Decision Tree/Regression Tree using CART (Classification and Regression Trees) method as an analytic tool to identify a group, discover the relationship between groups and predict future events and for segmentation, stratification, data reduction and variable screening, interaction identification, and category merging the paths from root to leaf represent classification rules.
