Biography

Robert's PhD is in American Studies, the interdisciplinary examination of American literature, history, and culture. He teaches colonial and nineteenth-century American literature; areas of particular interest include slave narratives, captivity narratives, and the role of literary texts in the construction and deconstruction of national identity and public memory.

Robert joined the UVU faculty in 1998. He served as Chair of the English & Literature Department from 2006-2012. He currently serves as Assistant Chair and Scheduler for the Department. In this role, his goal is to provide a considered and methodical schedule that maximizes students' access to the classes they need to progress toward their degrees.
