Travis Lovell

Biography

Travis Lovell graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in photography and a Masters of Fine Art degree in photography from Maine Media College. Travis has been teaching photography at the university level since 2003. During this time he has had teaching assignments at both BYU and UVU. His personal focus in photography and in teaching revolves around the history of photography and hands on or traditional photographic processes. Travis focuses a lot of his efforts on the traditional landscape but is always looking for ways to explore overlooked or neglected subjects. He also is very active in developing and implementing innovative teaching opportunities that will provide the greatest situations for student development and exposure. He has co-directed several study abroad programs, service learning opportunities, and also teaching classes on location such as Capitol Reef National Park. These efforts have allowed him to take students to Samoa, France, England, Germany, Australia, New York, Southeastern United States, and all around Utah. He also co-directed the introduction of the UVU Fine Art Book Series which are collaborative projects based around a central theme and published in beautiful coffee table books. These books have won awards nationally, regionally, and locally.
