Dr. Karla. Arroyo is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in social work and mental health counseling. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Work from the University of Utah, a Master's in Social Work, an A.S.S. in Business from LDS Business College, and a B.S. in Economics from Universidad Autonoma Metropolitana. Additionally, she has an Accounting Assistant Certificate.
Dr. Arroyo currently serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Work at Utah Valley University. She is also the Founder and Clinical Programs Director at the Multicultural Counseling Center, where she provides court mandated evaluations, individual, and clinical supervision. Her administrative duties center in developing inter-agency collaborations and strategic planning.
Her previous roles include adjunct instructor positions at Salt Lake Community College, Westminster College, and the University of Utah, where she taught various social work and education courses. She has also served as a study abroad field instructor in Oaxaca and as a research analyst at the Utah Criminal Justice Center.
Dr. Arroyo has held various leadership positions in the community serving as the Executive Director at a local domestic violence shelter, developed the only Latino Coalition Against Domestic Violence in the state of Utah and established the first local Community Resource Center in partnership with a local city.
Her clinical experience includes providing individual, family and group therapy at various local agencies since 2002. She is actively involved in community participation, serving on several councils and committees, and has received numerous awards for her contributions to social work and community service.
Dr. Arroyo is certified in various therapeutic and intervention techniques, including EMDR, Trauma Focus-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. She has presented at numerous conferences and published research on effective psychotherapy for domestic violence survivors.
