TEACHING
My primary teaching domain is General & Physical Chemistry lectures and labs. In addition to that, I teach the "Biomolecular Modeling & Simulations" course that I developed to introduce UVU students to the wide range of chemical and biological problems that can be tackled using computational methods.
RESEARCH
I use computer simulations to study proteins and their complex interactions. I am also interested in developing and incorporating molecular graphics, animations, and virtual & augmented reality into chemistry courses to improve student understanding of abstract physicochemical concepts. Below are some examples of the past student projects presented at the national and regional conferences:
* Investigating the effect of pH on conformations and binding affinity of the JUNO and IZUMO1 cell surface receptors (National ACS Meeting, Spring 2021).
* Development and utilization of virtual reality educational content for use by students of chemistry (NCUR & UCUR, Spring 2019).
* Exploring the relationship between visual-spatial skills and student performance in chemistry (NCUR & UCUR, Spring 2019).
* Probing the mechanism of binding between the sperm and egg cell surface receptors (National ACS Meeting, Fall 2018).
