Faculty Member
Dr. Shekaramiz earned his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Utah State University (USU) in 2018. His dissertation title was "Sparse Signal Recovery Based on Compressive Sensing & Exploration Using Multiple Mobile Sensors," (fully supported by a NASA grant). Prior to joining UVU, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Information Dynamics Lab of USU, where he conducted research on developing array processing algorithms to be used in a novel active noise cancellation setting. He has served on the Editorial Board of four Journals and has served as a reviewer for several journals and conferences such as IEEE Trans. Signal Processing and IEEE Trans. Aerospace & Electronic Systems. He is a member of IEEE, Golden Key International Honor Society, Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, and Honor Society of Tau Beta Pi. He is currently a Senior IEEE member.
Dr. Shekaramiz is heavily involved in applied research projects. He believes the students will learn more when they work on real-world projects, simplified to match the course level. He also believes that the instructor should keep showing the students the big picture of why they are learning the course materials and where they can apply them. He has secured a grant of $979K as a PI from USHE-Deep Technology Talent Initiative. This project is on developing a fully automated system for wind turbine inspection using artificial intelligence and commercial drones.

- I was selected as one of the 8 finalists of Bill E. Robins award in the category of "DOCTORAL STUDENT RESEARCHER of the year", 2019
The Bill E. Robins Memorial Award has been awarded to the highest achieving student regardless of gender since 1960. The purpose of the award is to recognize students that excel academically, have displayed outstanding leadership and dedication to Utah State, and possess traits that set them apart as a rare individual. In an effort to be more inclusive and accessible, the student nomination and selection process for the Bill E. Robins award is being changed to a single year award, and an individual student is only eligible to receive the award once.
