I began programming computers as a young pre-teen in California, a few years before the Internet boomed and became a major societal force. My higher education journey began after eighth grade, when I started taking math classes at a local college. Within two years, I dropped out of high school and left home to attend BYU, where I graduated in computer science with a minor in mathematics. After taking leave for two years of religious service in Hungary, I started graduate school with a goal to teach at the university level, but my plans shifted when I decided to pursue my doctorate in law, becoming an attorney instead of a professor. I practiced law with a small firm, serving clients in several areas of law, then started an online business providing state court e-filing services, occasionally teaching classes in legal studies and computer science along the way. I joined the UVU computer science faculty in Fall 2024.
I have come to value the unique twists and turns of my educational journey and hope to help students catch that kind of vision and take ownership of their individual journeys. I resonate with the words of Robert Frost_ "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." I live within biking distance of campus with my wonderful wife and five children. In addition to the subjects I teach, I also love foreign languages, music, electric vehicles, sausage, and puns.
