During the visit to Geneva students will visit:
At each of UN bodies students will interact with the UN officials, make own presentations and learn about possible internships, fellowships as well employment opportunities.
As a cultural part of the visit to Geneva, students will:
a). Make a trip to Chillon Castle, the most visited medieval castle in Europe. It is classified as a Swiss Cultural Property of National Significance.
b). Visit Botanical Garden, with its collection of more than 12,000 species, which has origins in 1817 and occupies roughly 28 hectares. The garden’s herbarium - one of the world’s largest - has six million samples
c). Make a tour of Geneva to learn about its history, architecture and place in the country and globally
During the visit to New York, students will:
1). Participate at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) on Sustainable Development at the UN headquarters.
2). Participate at the parallel event as a part of the activities of the HLPF and advocate for sustainable development of mountain communities.
3). Attend general debates of the HLPF and learn important skills of entry-level diplomats
4). Visit Permanent Mission of the Kyrgyz Republic to the UN and discuss future plans of joint advocacy for mountain women and families at the UN. .
5). Attend side events at HLPF hosted by mountain states accredited at the UN to learn diplomatic skills for hosting them;
6) Attend parallel events of other NGOs, accredited under the UN ECOSOC to learn how civil society groups contribute to the UN agenda;
7). Have a tour of the United Nations headquarters to learn its structure and activities, including its secretariat.
As a cultural part of the visit to New York, students will:
1) Visit the Statue of Liberty to learn its role and place in the American history.
2) Visit Methropoliten Museum to get acquainted with its famous collection of art.
3) Visit Broadway and the 5th Avenue to learn about their cultural and historic significance;
4) Visit Grand Central Station and get acquainted with its place and significance in the United States history and modrn life
*Students are expected to take at least one of the following two course options:
POLS 3410 Globalization and Sustainable Development (3 credits)
POLS 3640 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (3 credits)
NOTE: There may be coursework during the summer semester outside of the travel dates.

Minimum G.P.A.: 2.0
Students with Academic Standings registration holds at the time of application received for falling below a 2.0 GPA in the previous semester(s) will not be allowed to study abroad and should not apply. Students who fall below a 2.0 GPA in the Spring semester may be withdrawn from their Summer study abroad program.

Physical Requirements:
Study Abroad typically involves a lot of walking! Make sure that you will be able to walk long distances over uneven surfaces.
Travel during the summer in foreign countries can be uncomfortably hot and humid. Air conditioning is not always available.
Students on study abroad must be able to independently navigate in a foreign country and be able to follow specific instructions. This may include figuring out and using public transportation, making their way through airports, negotiating large crowds, and making smart decisions related to their own safety in unfamiliar circumstances.

Fee covers housing, in-country transportation, most meals, tours, international insurance. The program fee does not include the listed Additional Estimated Costs.

*Please review the Office of Education Abroad's Withdrawal Policy before applying. Within 5 days of acceptance into a Study Abroad program, you will be required to pay a $500 non-refundable commitment deposit to confirm your spot.
The student is responsible for these additional costs:
Students over the age of 73 at the time of travel may be required to purchase a supplemental international health and evacuation insurance plan through GeoBlue (approx $200-$500+)
Students should be prepared to pay out-of-pocket for travel disruptions including lost luggage, possible COVID tests or quarantine stays if required by the host country for entry or exit, missed flights, etc.
All students are required to pay a $75 non-refundable application fee .
*UVU study abroad tuition is charged as an additional study abroad fee in your student account. It is separate from the study abroad program fee and regular UVU summer tuition. It is not factored into the "equal payment" calculation of the UVU Tuition Table. Study Abroad students are advised to only take study abroad courses during the block of their study abroad program.

Pell Grants and Student Loans may be applied to the program, based on eligibility. Speak to the UVU Study Abroad Advisor (LA 209) and a Financial Aid Advisor for more information (BA 105).
UVU Faculty/Staff Dependent Tuition Waiver benefits may not be used to pay for study abroad tuition or fees.
