Helping People Breath Easier

A Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) is a skilled healthcare professional trained in critical care who treats patients who have cardiopulmonary diseases. RT is a high-demand field and graduates perform as high-functioning clinicians in the medical field.

Upon graduation, students in the RT program have over 900 clinical hands-on hours, which is necessary as they enter this life-saving profession. The UVU Respiratory Therapy (RT) program has a 100% pass rate on both the Therapist Multiple Choice (TMC) and the Clinical Simulation Examination (CSE). The RT program has a 100% employment rate.

By moving to Lehi, the RT program will have its own lab/simulation space which will enable professors to incorporate simulation into more classes. The new simulation lab will have the newest in equipment and life support ventilators, which are the type of equipment respiratory therapists use in hospitals every day.

Simulation education is where students put into practice what they have learned in the classroom. It is a safe place for them to make mistakes and “learn by doing.” However, hands-on experience is crucial, and the program provides opportunities for students to support the community. In 2021, students from the RT program were able to perform pulmonary function testing on athletes at the Huntsman Summer Games in St. George, Utah, performing over 300 tests.

We invite you to support the health of our community and beyond by donating to the Respiratory Therapy Program.

Inspiring Stories

Teleflex Visits UVU Respiratory Therapy

On April 12, 2022, the Utah Valley University Respiratory Therapy program welcomed national medical device provider Teleflex to its campus for a hands-on, engaged learning experience. This opportunity was open to all students in the Respiratory Therapy program including local members of the Respiratory Therapy community. Attendees of the three sessions learned more about ultrasound guided arterial line insertion from Brandon Burney and Casey Schueller of Teleflex. We thank Teleflex for their time and commitment to bettering our Respiratory Therapy program.
