Registration is open for the fourth annual SheTech Explorer Day, bringing girls in grades 9-12 an introduction to programs in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It is hosted by the Women Tech Council and Utah Valley University, with the goal of creating a safe and fun environment that encourages young women to explore opportunities in STEM fields.

While the event is free, registration is limited and closes Feb. 17. It will be held at the UCCU Center on UVU campus from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on March 3.

The title sponsor is Ancestry.com. There will be workshops, prizes and contests, networking, field opportunities, and most of all — fun.

“This event has become a premier event in the region that you don’t want to miss,” said Angela Trego, assistant professor of technology management. “We have more companies involved, new workshops and a new design challenge that participants won’t want to miss.”

“We want young women to not only see the vast range of opportunities but also that it is more about creativity and problem solving than about math,” she said.

The attendees can expect to build their confidence and discover what they can do in science and technology. They can also explore possible future careers and perhaps find their passion. There will be interactive learning with a chance to talk with representatives of different companies who have their own passion for the sciences.
