The Utah Valley University Mixtape Live concert is coming up on November 11. If you are looking for a high energy, but intimate concert, Mixtape Live may be perfect for you. The show includes two of UVU’s pop and rock bands as well as student guest artists performing covers and originals.

Artist in Residence for Commercial Music, Todd Sorensen, is an in demand session drummer and percussionist with work featured in movies, television shows, and on major networks. Sorensen said, “Mixtape Live began as a place to showcase UVU commercial music students in an event that allowed them to sing, play, and dance to their favorite music as well as original student songs.”

There is no other event like Mixtape Live. Mixtape gives students the chance to let loose and perform the music they love in a setting that catalyzes creative thinking. Mixtape Live will perform on Saturday November 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Centre Stage of the Sorensen Student Center on the UVU campus.  Tickets can be purchased at the door or online at uvu.edu/thearts.

Ice Breaker Jazz Festival Returns to UVU with Top Saxophonist Tia Fuller

The Utah Valley University Department of Music proudly presents Ice Breaker Jazz Festival featuring Tia Fuller, in conjunction with the UVU Jazz Orchestra. This is one night only.

The Ice Breaker Jazz Festival is an annual event involving hundreds of young jazz musicians from around the state. Each year, the festival culminates in a performance by the UVU Jazz Orchestra. This year, the jazz festival will feature Tia Fuller, one of the top jazz saxophonists in the world. Fuller is best known for her work as a featured soloist with Beyoncé. The UVU Jazz Orchestra is proud to join her in an exciting concert of her music.

Alex Heitlinger, assistant professor and director of jazz and contemporary performance at UVU, has nothing but praise for the students involved this year. “The UVU jazz orchestra is the premiere jazz ensemble at UVU,” he continued, “Students audition for the group each semester and only the most talented earn a spot in the group.”

The Ice Breaker Jazz Festival combines student talent, top tier performances, and a world-class featured artist to make Orem the heart of jazz in Utah for one night. Tickets will go quickly. Orders can be made at uvu.edu/thearts and at the door.
