The Utah Valley University Department of Music, in conjunction with the UVU Symphony, are proud to bring classical music to the valley with a “Musical Feast”. The symphony will perform on Thursday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the UVU Grande Ballroom.

The UVU Symphony will feature faculty member Isaac Hurtado in notable arias including: O Sole Mio, Granada, Time to Say Goodbye, Nella Fantasia and others. The students will also present 2000 Fantasia Classic Firebird Suite 1919 by Stravinsky, one of the more demanding works from the standard symphonic repertoire.

When asked what inspired this event, Cheung Chau, director of orchestral studies said, “The event started to bring a lighter spirit to the symphony season. We looked into movie music, and instead of doing another purely movie music concert as we did last year, we thought of doing great classical pieces that have been used prevalently in film. Fantasia came to mind, and one of the classic works for the 2000 remake of the movie classic is Stravinsky’s Firebird.”

Chau continued, “What better to celebrate the holidays than beautiful vocal music? Isaac Hurtado, a fantastic tenor, recently joined our faculty so this was a perfect occasion to showcase him. We carefully chose music from a broad variety of styles, leaning on the lighter and more popular side, to celebrate the holidays together.”

From classical favorites, to stunning arias, a “Musical Feast” will be a robust concert that showcases all the best UVU has to offer. Tickets are available online at uvu.edu/thearts and cost $5 for students and children under 18, and $10 for the general public.
