25,000-plus at UVU take advantage of free UTA passes

UTA

Tens of thousands of Utah Valley University students, faculty and staff are getting onboard with the idea of riding free public transportation. Since August 1st, nearly 26,000 UVU ID/UTA cards have been printed. The cards allow free access to Utah Valley Express, FrontRunner, TRAX, and buses. They are available to students taking one credit hour, faculty, adjunct faculty and staff, and their qualified dependents.

Issuing transportation cards comes in conjunction with the beginning of operations for the Utah Valley Express buses on August 20.  When fully operational, the UVX buses arrive every six minutes.  There will be as many as 18 Express buses on the road at one time.

Utah Valley University is encouraging its community to use public transportation to minimize impact on the environment, and facilitate accessibility. Each bus is a highbred electric vehicle, and takes up to 80 cars off the road.

UVX buses provide easy access to FrontRunner, UVU, University Place Mall, BYU and Provo City Center. They also offer more convenient accessibility from UTA’s Orem Central Station.

There are three different ways to catch a ride between Orem Central Station and campus:
— Ride the new Utah Valley Express. UVX buses depart every 6-10 minutes. Connect to/from Orem Central Station and campus in only 6 minutes.
— The 862 bus departs every 30 minutes. Connect to/from Orem Central Station to the Library bus stop in 11 minutes.
— The 841 bus departs every 30 minutes. Connect to/from Orem Central Station to the Library bus stop in 11 minutes.
