UVU students to perform original songs at commercial music showcase

Utah Valley University’s School of the Arts, in conjunction with the Department of Music, is proud to present the Commercial Music Showcase featuring original music from students. The performance will be held at UVU’s Centre Stage on February 27 at 7:30 p.m.

The Commercial Music Showcase was developed to bring together individual vocalists, singers, and songwriters to showcase their individual talent. Students can perform original material that is meaningful to them. It is also a great place for artists to learn from eachother while enjoying the performances in different styles, genres, and vocal texture.

The commercial music program started contemporary concerts during the 2016-2017 school year. The goal was to find the most efficient way to showcase individuals.

Todd Sorensen, artist in residence for the commerical music program, stated, “The most interesting stand out is how individual the voices are. It is really enjoyable to listen to these differences. The music business focuses heavily on distinct originality. This gives these students the opportunity to make the most of their own original sound.” Sorensen continued, “One of these students may be a household name some day. Most of these students want to go the distance and will work hard for it. It will be fun to look back and say ‘I knew them when’”.

Tickets for the events are $5 and may be purchased at uvu.universitytickets.com or Campus Connection.
