Utah Valley University professor recognized with national award

Utah Valley University’s dean of the College of Health & Public Service, David A. McEntire, has been presented with the FEMA Higher Education Program Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award.

This is McEntire’s second national award. In 2011 he received the Dr. B. Wayne Blanchard Award for Academic Excellence in Emergency Management Education.

“I have enjoyed dedicating my time and attention to the disciplines of emergency management and homeland security,” McEntire said. “I hope that my efforts are having, in some small way, a positive impact on current students and future professionals in these important areas.”

The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Award recognizes outstanding efforts within the emergency management and homeland security disciplines. Sponsored by the University of Central Florida’s School of Public Administration, this annual award is based on the rigorous criteria and presented at the FEMA Higher Education Symposium.

Claire Connolly Knox, associate professor of the School of Public Management at University of Central Florida said, “UCF's School of Public Administration is honored to present Dr. Dave McEntire the first Annual Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Award. This scholarship is essential as our discipline evolves and matures. His contribution to this literature and our discipline continues to influence the next generation of SoTL scholars.”

McEntire’s second edition of his text book, Introduction to Homeland Security coming out next month.
