Environmental Studies is an inherently interdisciplinary field which explores the complex links between human culture and the natural world. The Environmental Studies Program at Utah Valley University challenges students to critically examine scientific, philosophical, social, and personal aspects of environmental issues and the numerous connections between natural and social systems, from local to global scales. Modern humans evolved within the ecological context of our world, and over the past century our species has emerged as the single largest agent of biological and geological change on Earth. To have the greatest positive impact on the environment, we must seek further knowledge of the structure and function of natural systems as well as a deeper understanding of how culture affects the way we perceive and behave towards nature.
