You must have completed all Respiratory Therapy prerequisites to apply to the program.
Entry into the Respiratory Therapy program is determined by a competitive application process. There is no waiting list! Three factors are considered in the application process: GPA of the prerequisite courses, TEAS test scores, and interview
Prerequisite GPA accounts for 60% of the application score. Seven prerequisite courses are used in calculating this GPA. They are:
TEAS test scores account for 40% of the application score. Scores in the areas of English, Reading, Math, Science, as well as the Comprehensive score will be used. Eligible tests must have a 50% or higher on each section.
All applicants will be notified within 3-10 business days, via their UVU student email, to inform them whether or not they have been selected to interview. The number of applications varies by semester and affects the number of students selected. Due to limited time and space, not all applicants may receive an invitation to interview.
The interview process is standardized to ensure that each candidate interviewed has an equal opportunity to be objectively evaluated. An interview does not guarantee acceptance. Only the scores from the interview process are used to determine acceptance into the Respiratory Therapy program. Applicants can only be invited to interview twice in a 5-year period.
All applicants will be notified via their UVU student email account whether or not they have been selected to interview, typically within 3-7 business days after the application deadline. It is the student’s responsibility to check their UVU student email to see if they have been invited to interview.
Applicants invited to interview should carefully follow instructions provided in the email from the Respiratory Therapy program. Applicants should prepare as they would for a professional job interview. (No resumes or letters of recommendation, etc. needed.) Interviews last approximately 2.5 hours and include multiple steps to the evaluation. Those steps may include, but are not limited to, individual interviews, group activity, and writing a timed essay using a provided prompt.

All interview candidates will be notified by mail of their admissions status within 2 weeks of the interview completion date.
Up to 20 interview candidates will be selected, notified, and offered a position in the program. If accepted, students must meet all deadlines. Failure to do so will forfeit their position in the program.
Applicants are only considered for the specific semester to which their application was made. Applications will not be carried forward to another application period by the Respiratory Therapy program. Students are solely responsible to reapply if not accepted.
Acceptance to the Respiratory Therapy program does not guarantee eligibility to sit for the TMC/CSE credentialing exams.
A group of alternates may also be selected. Candidates from this alternate pool will be notified, in rank-order, if an opening occurs for that semester.

Failure to meet any of the above requirements will jeopardize acceptance into the UVU Respiratory Therapy program.
The responsibility for satisfying all requirements rests upon the student. Students are strongly encouraged to acquaint themselves with the various demands associated with respiratory therapy. The Respiratory Therapy program reserves the right to disqualify the application of any student guilty of any form of misrepresentation and/or misconduct.
Utah Society for Respiratory Care Conference
All students are required to attend the Utah Society for Respiratory Care (USRC) Conference in the Spring semester and complete an assignment. The USRC Conference requires that students register for a student American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) membership ($25) plus conference registration fees (typically $50-$60).
MEDICAL CANNABIS NOTIFICATION
In accordance with UVU policy 548 applicants to clinical programs at UVU must pass a drug test. Students will be tested upon acceptance to a clinical program. The responsibility for passing the drug test resides with the student regardless of possession of a medical cannabis card that is legal in any state. Clinical programs reserve the right to repeat drug tests at any time during the clinical program.
Immunization and TB testing compliance is required of all respiratory therapy (RT) students. RT students are at risk for exposure to, and possible transmission of, diseases due to their contact with patients or with infective material of patients. Student compliance with immunizations and testing is required in order to participate in clinical experiences.
Students are required to submit copies of official proof of the required immunizations/tests to the Respiratory Therapy Program. If unable to find childhood immunization records, students may get a blood test (titer). We suggest beginning the immunization verification process early in order to meet the UVU Respiratory Therapy program deadlines.
Immunization requirements are subject to change based on agency requirements.
