United Way distributes Help Me Grow kits to all children throughout Utah. The kits have been designed to help develop crucial neurological connections while simultaneously encouraging ways to bond with adults through easy and fun activities.

This activity will be ready for pick up at the front desk of People and Culture beginning Monday, May 12th at 9:00am and will be available until Tuesday, May 13th at 5:00pm. Please note it will be your responsibility to get completed projects back to Ann Drayer by Wednesday, May 14th by 11:00am during the in-person event. People and Culture is not collecting the completed projects.
G.R.I.T. stands for "Growing Resilience and Inclusiveness Together". The GRIT Garden works towards this mission through "three P's of Sustainability": people, planet, and prosperity. University faculty and staff have an opportunity to get involved by working in the garden. All of the crops produced in the garden go to the UVU food bank to support at-risk students. Come and support UVU's sustainability efforts by helping in the GRIT Garden!

Recommended Equipment:
With help from volunteers like you, The Magic Yarn Project creates magic in the lives of children battling cancer and other medical issues by making yarn wigs that are soft, hypoallergenic, sturdy for playtime, and machine washable. Medical hair loss from chemotherapy, alopecia, trichotillomania, burns, and more can leave children’s scalps tender and raw. Magic Yarn wigs are inspired by beloved Disney characters and invite children back to the world of play and daydreaming. They are a beacon of fun, laughter, and imagination during a scary time. Kids can choose from over 50 different characters!
This project is very simple. Volunteers can work alone or team up in groups of two to tie the yarn onto each premade hat to create the princess wig. Wigs take 60-90 minutes to complete.
What to wear/bring: This craft does not require any particular skill-set, just a desire to serve.
Time: 9 am – 11 am
Location:SC 206 A,B,C
Equipment needed: None
Akwasi Frimpong
We are thrilled to welcome Akwasi Frimpong, an international athlete and proud UVU alum, as this year’s speaker!
In 2018, Akwasi made history as the first Skeleton athlete from Ghana to compete in the Winter Olympics, proving that perseverance and determination can break barriers. His inspiring journey from UVU student to world-class competitor is a testament to the power of resilience, and we can’t wait for him to share his story with us!
Akwasi Frimpong is a groundbreaking athlete and philanthropist, recognized as Ghana's first skeleton Olympian and Africa's first elite skeleton race winner. Born in Ghana and raised in the Netherlands, Akwasi's journey is marked by resilience and a relentless pursuit of excellence. A former Dutch junior sprint champion, he has earned over a dozen international medals, proving that challenges can become stepping stones to success.
In addition to his athletic achievements, Akwasi is a devoted father and entrepreneur. He and his wife, Erica Shields-Frimpong, founded the Hope Of A Billion Foundation (HOAB) in 2022, aiming to empower underserved communities through sports, business, and educational opportunities. Inspired by his own Olympic journey and the promise he made to his grandmother, Akwasi is dedicated to fostering hope and motivation in youth. His story serves as a powerful reminder that with belief, hard work, and perseverance, dreams can be transformed into reality.
"I want to be the example that any dream, whether it is being a doctor, a lawyer,
or an Olympian, is possible with hard work, dedication and perseverance."
— Akwasi Frimpong
