Campus Sustainability Month Wrapped With New Awards for UVU
October was Campus Sustainability Month across the U.S. UVU was host to many conversations about clean energy, ecology, environmental ethics, and engagement - from U.S. Representative John Curtis' Conservative Climate Summit at the beginning of the month to Sustainability Week at the end.
As a Sustainability Month bonus, UVU received not one, but, two sustainability-related awards!
Green Business Award | Utah Business Magazine & Rocky Mountain Power
On 16 October, Utah Business Magazine and Rocky Mountain Power honored Utah Valley University with a Green Business Award. This award celebrates the steps that UVU has taken over the years toward greener campus operations, engaging academic opportunities, and meaningful community action.
At the same awards event, UVU's host City of Orem also received a Green Community Award. By working together we can leverage the best that a university and community have to offer and continue on this path of environmental stewardship toward a greener, healthier future.

Bicycle Friendly University Award
The League of American Bicyclists, the premier grassroots advocacy organization encouraging better bicycling and protecting the rights of people who bike, has honored Utah Valley University’s Orem Campus with its first Bicycle Friendly University, Bronze-level award in recognition of the institution’s achievements in promoting and enabling safe, accessible bicycling on campus.
The Bicycle Friendly University program now includes 209 colleges and universities in 44 states and the District of Columbia.
At UVU, we've got marked bike lanes, parking racks at many convenient locations across campus, and a robust recreational biking program through the campus Outdoor Adventure Center.
We look forward to building on our current cycling environment by soliciting feedback from the campus community, working with faculty and students in the classroom, and partnering with Mountainland Association of Governments to develop a Campus Active Transportation Plan. Facilitating improved physical and social infrastructure will better meet the needs of Wolverines who get to, from, and around campus by bike, scooter, etc.
