"The mark of a serious university is its commitment to the arts. They can move and uplift us to achieve the very best of the human spirit."

Our Mission

Students in the School of the Arts become exceptional, original, and engaged artists by studying with distinguished faculty in state-of-the-art facilities, working with industry professionals, and collaborating with a diverse group of fellow students. SOA student-artists are driven by purpose, committed to their field, and prepared to become successful professionals and conscientious citizens of the world. In an environment that is inclusive, specialized training in the School of the Arts builds on a foundation of general education coursework and engages the community in performances, exhibitions and outreach activities.

A Message from the Dean

Courtney Davis, Dean

Welcome to The School of the Arts. Encompassing both the visual and the performing arts, we understand the inherent and unique power of the arts to engage and transform. The arts are not only a gateway to self-discovery but also a driver of cultural change.

We seek to educate and inspire students, audiences, and communities through bold and compelling programming as well as world-class performance and exhibition spaces like The Noorda Center and The UVU Museum of Art at Lakemount (coming soon). The Art & Design galleries present a constantly rotating calendar of vibrant student- and faculty-curated exhibitions.

With 34 bachelor’s and associate programs spanning four departments as well as four certificates and two minors, The School of the Arts offers students a variety of entry points and degree options. In addition to specialized, professional-track arts programs, we also provide students with opportunities for broader experiences in the arts as well as degree emphases in music, dance, theatre, and art education.

As a school of performing and visual arts, active and engaged learning practices are at the heart of what we do. From creative work and research to academic performances and exhibitions, our students engage, present, and connect. These opportunities give students the chance to interreact with, ask questions of, and perform with seasoned professionals in their chosen field, providing a distinct advantage to advance their careers upon graduation. Our faculty perform, publish, present, contribute, and exhibit at national and international venues, bringing their unique areas of expertise back to the classroom.

In The School of the Arts, we value diversity of cultural expression. We are committed to fostering an inviting, safe, and supporting environment for faculty, staff, students, and the community.

We invite you to take a class, join a performance, visit an exhibition, or stay for a degree. The arts are meant to be shared and we've saved you a place.
