Ice Breaker Jazz Festival
Utah Valley University
Dear Friends of Jazz,
Utah Valley University cordially invites you and your students to participate in this year’s Ice Breaker Jazz Festival, held virtually on Monday, November 23rd. We are proud to be able to offer this festival virtually so that our jazz fellowship may grow in this often-restrictive time. The event is open to all high school and middle school bands. Bands will not receive official scores or rating, but one band from each age category will be honored with an outstanding performance award.
Each ensemble should register and submit a maximum of thirty-minutes of performance. Multiple ensembles from the same school are welcome to register.
The registration fee for each band has been modified this year to $75.00 and will include written and recorded feedback from one of our adjudicators and a free composition for large jazz ensemble written by Dr. David Baker.
Please fill out the registration form and submit with credit card payment. Entries are due November 13th, 2020 and will be considered in the order they are received.
Please read through the submission guidelines and details below. Feel free to contact me directly with any other questions or concerns. I look forward to seeing you at this year’s virtual festival!
Sincerely,
Dr. David Baker

Participants will receive the following:
Registration Fee: $75.00 per group
SUBMISSION:
After registration is confirmed, each group will receive a link to an upload folder where all content will be submitted. This will then be shared with our adjudicators. A direct link to the original big band composition will be shared with each director shortly after confirmation.
Registered Groups will submit a video recording of their ensemble performing their repertoire and uploaded to the Ice Breaker Jazz Festival submission page NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 16th. The video must be of a decent audio and video quality and should be framed so that all members (including the conductor) are visible. Each submission should include scanned copies of the scores for our adjudicators to reference.
Feedback will be returned to each director on Monday, November 22nd, 2021.
