The diesel mechanics technology program provides students with the ability to learn diesel engines, hydraulics, electricity/electronics, and power trains/chassis. Graduates can specialize in any of these areas. Because of the complexity of these systems, specializing will become the norm in the industry, though students do need working knowledge of all areas. The program is certified by the National Automotive Teacher Education Foundation (NATEF).

"Nothing could have prepared me better for a career in diesel mechanics than my time at UVU."
"Every lab was grounded in real world situations that are regularly encountered on the job, the theory classes developed my understanding to the next level, and the friendships formed with my classmates will never be forgotten. The wealth of knowledge that I gained was instrumental in kickstarting my career."
Andrew Bruner, Diesel Mechanics Program
"The demand for diesel technicians has never been greater."
"Diesel mechanics is one of UVU’s longest standing programs and has been taught for over 50 years. We teach all the major systems on heavy duty trucks and equipment, while keeping up with the latest technology and innovations in the diesel industry. Our program prepares students to receive both ASE and AED Foundation certifications, providing a significant advantage to students pursuing a career in diesel technology. The demand for diesel technicians has never been greater and jobs are in great supply. However, what sets UVU apart from other programs across the state is our students have the ability to continue their education with a 4-year degree while working as a technician. There is a reason why UVU students have won the SkillsUSA State diesel contest 16 of the last 22 years!"
