Credit / No Credit Grading Options for Students

COVID-19 has changed the school year in profound, unexpected, and unprecedented ways. We absolutely understand our students have been affected by a sudden shift to online learning in the middle of a semester. We thank you for your patience and commend you on your grit and endurance in a very challenging time. UVU will offer flexibility in grading for courses that were converted to online in the middle of the Spring 2020 semester. Please visit https://www.uvu.edu/records/spring2020_grading.html for more information.

We strongly encourage you to continue with letter grades for the current semester, but we realize that some of you have legitimate reasons to opt for credit/no credit (CR/NC) this semester.

For all courses taken within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS), students choosing to receive credit/no credit (CR/NC) will be awarded credit if they would have received a D- or higher letter grade. Credit grades will fulfill graduation requirements, but will not fulfill prerequisite requirements if you are majoring in one of our degree programs. For students majoring in a CHSS degree program, a letter grade will be required if you are taking a prerequisite course. You can continue to get a letter grade in the prerequisite course now or retake it for a letter grade at a future time.

For students pursuing a degree that leads to licensure, receiving a CR grade may impact your licensure.

You'll have until April 24 (for full term courses) to decide whether to opt-in to credit/no credit (CR/NC) grading for each of your classes.

The following information are specific program requirements to keep in mind when making this decision. If there is a minimum grade requirement, then you must have that letter grade or higher to advance on to the next course.

If you have any questions concerning your credit/no credit grading options, please contact your academic advisor at https://www.uvu.edu/chss/advising.html.
