Dr. Joung is a highly accomplished educator and researcher with a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) and a Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction with a Mathematics Concentration from the same university. With extensive experience in teaching, research, and academic service, Dr. Joung is currently an Assistant Professor of Mathematical and Quantitative Reasoning in the College of Science at UVU, having previously held various teaching and research positions.
Dr. Joung's research interests primarily focus on enhancing students' mathematical knowledge and conceptual understanding. She has conducted research on the use of video-based assessments in teaching graphing quadratic functions. In addition to her research, Dr. Joung has also been actively involved in academic service, serving as a publication committee member for the School Science of Mathematics Association (SSMA), a reviewer for the Mathematics Learning and Teaching (MLT) journal and the SSMA journal, and a proposal reviewer for the AERA conference. She has previously organized and co-programmed annual conferences on teaching mathematics in the Illinois Council of Teachers of Mathematics (ICTM)/Southern Section.

In Fall 2023, I applied for a HEA Fellow, which is a recognition of teaching excellence. I was awarded HEA Fellow status in Jan 2024.
The UVU Champions of Inclusion Award is designed to recognize UVU Students, Faculty, Staff, Departments, and Community partners who advance the core themes of Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity within the university. I have served as a member of the COS EID committee since 2022. We have received the EID Committee Award.
