Title IV Financial Aid Refund Options

If you meet the eligibility requirements for a financial aid disbursement, you may qualify for a refund. A credit balance (a refund) may occur after your allowable charges—such as tuition, fees, and potentially book charges—have been paid. You must have a credit balance to be eligible for a refund.

If you are an undergraduate student and have requested a Direct PLUS Loan, any credit balance or refund of those funds will be delivered to your parent unless they authorize you to receive it.

If you qualify for a refund, it will be delivered to you. You can choose how to receive your refund from the options below.

Your Choices to Receive Your Refund Include:

1. Direct Deposit to Your Financial Account (Recommended)

Direct Deposit is the quickest and most convenient way to receive your refund. Funds are transferred directly into your bank account of choice. You are not required to open or obtain a financial account through a specific financial institution.

How to Set Up Direct Deposit

To sign up for direct deposit or to confirm that you are signed up:

  1. Navigate to myUVU for Students and log in to your account.
  2. In the My Account Status box, click "More Information"
  3. Under Student Account Tools, select "Direct Deposit"
  4. Enter your Bank Routing Number and Account Number, then select the Type of account.
  5. If enrolling for the first time, select "Start" next to the Action field.
  6. If changing existing info, select "Change" next to the Action field.
  7. When complete, click on "Submit," and after reading the Direct Deposit Agreement, click on "I Agree" to finish.

Students that have signed up for Direct Deposit on myUVU can expect to see their credit balance/refund deposited into their bank account within 2-3 business days once the refund (REF) transaction is entered on their student account.

For UVU PlusCard Account Holders:

If you select your UVU PlusCard financial account to receive your Direct Deposit, the major features, terms, and commonly assessed fees for the UVU PlusCard account are listed at the bottom of this page.

2. Paper Check

If you would like to receive your refund by paper check, it will be delivered by mail, which typically takes 7-10 business days.

To receive your refund by paper check:

  1. If you have not previously signed up for Direct Deposit in myUVU: Your refund will be sent via paper check mailed to your local address or other address we have on file for you with no further action required from you. We recommend that you have updated your current address in your myUVU account.
  2. If you have previously set up Direct Deposit in myUVU: You must call or email the Bursar’s Office at 801-863-7200 or [email protected] to request that your Direct Deposit be inactivated. The Bursar’s Office must receive your request within a reasonable time—at least three business days—before your refund is processed for this change to be made.

How to Update Your Address

  1. Log in to your myUVU account.
  2. Click the gear icon labeled "Edit Profile".
  3. Scroll down to "Local Address".
  4. Update your address and click "Save Changes".

You can update your local address and direct deposit information at any time.

You can change your preferred refund payment option at any time by following the process listed above as long as your request is received within a reasonable time before your refund is processed. For questions related to signing up for Direct Deposit or Paper Check refund options, please contact the Bursar’s Office at [email protected].

If you do not affirmatively make a selection choice, your refund will be issued via paper check mailed to your local address or other address on file.
