The George Sutherland Archives at the Fulton Library is UVU's central hub for preserving the stories, records, and memories that shape our campus and community. From documenting UVU’s growth to cataloging unique local history materials, the archives team ensures that the university’s legacy remains accessible for generations to come.
The archives began in 1997 with a rare book donation from Lavorne and Beatrice Sparks. Since then, the collections have steadily expanded to include institutional records, campus publications, photographs, oral histories, student work, and much more. Each item helps tell the stories of our community and of UVU—where we’ve been, who we are, and how we continue to grow.
Behind the scenes, archives staff manage both physical and digital collections, assist researchers, record and preserve oral histories, and collaborate with university departments and donors. They also curate exhibits, support community projects, and ensure all archival work meets professional preservation standards.
Physical Collections
The archives space houses more than one hundred physical collections available for research, historical study, and your own curiosity. You’ll find materials ranging from memoirs of 9/11 and film noir collections to national parks research and vintage postcard collections.
Whether you’re working on a class project, learning local history, or just exploring something that interests you, archives staff are happy to help you locate resources and answer questions. Instructions for scheduling a visit to the Reading Room or checking out materials are available on the Fulton Library website.
