UVU’s M.Ed. or Graduate Certificate in K-12 Education Leadership is the best way to get into the principal’s office. Licensure in K-12 Education Leadership allows educators to work in administrative roles in elementary and secondary schools as well as administration at the district level. This program allows educators with workplace experience to complete the requirements needed to apply for a Utah State Board of Education Leadership Area of Concentration License. Students completing the Master's degree will take additional coursework delving into current research in their areas of expertise and assessment of instruction.
You want to be a school principal.
You want to be a district administrator.
You want to be a school leader.
When I was searching for a Master’s program, I wanted to make sure I had one that
included hands-on learning and in-person instruction. Utah Valley University’s Master
of Education in K-12 Education Leadership program not only met those needs but provided
me with rich knowledge in data-based decision making, instructional leadership, school
operations management, and diversity and differentiation in education. The program
prepared me well for my current administrative position and I also made lifelong friendships
that I continue to rely on for support. The faculty not only cares about your success
but helps you along your journey by providing assistance as you progress through the
program.”
My experience with UVU's Master of Education in K-12 Education Leadership program
was phenomenal. The schedule of classes, style of teaching, and work load fit my needs
so well. UVU's program does an amazing job of balancing theory and practice. Assignments
are applicable and worth the time. My confidence and competence in my leadership abilities
grew so much during the time I was in the program, and I left feeling prepared to
lead. I also really appreciated UVU's flexibility. They trust their students as working
professionals, and are accommodating when circumstances require it. It really was
an overall wonderful experience for me."
I highly recommend UVU's Ed Leadership program for anyone wanting to advance their
leadership capacity. The faculty truly care and recognize the unique challenges graduate
students face. They will treat you as a professional, respecting your time with an
emphasis on quality, experiential-led learning experiences. You can look forward to
regularly scheduled guest speakers, from administration with diverse leadership experiences,
to financial and legal experts, to district superintendents. You will collaborate
with diverse leadership teams to solve challenging case studies, learning to apply
the rules and wisdom of school leadership. By the end of the program, those rules
will be internalized and automatic, so that when you find yourself in a challenging
situation, you know just what to do!"
Utah Valley University’s leadership program exceeded my expectations. Not only did
this program teach me everything about leadership and administration, but it also
went beyond that. I learned so much about myself as a person, how to interact with
others, be empathetic, and above all, be the best human being possible. Learning about
all of this helped me gain an understanding of how my personal attributes can affect
my educational leadership position. I came into my current role confident and prepared
because of my UVU professors and classes. I highly recommend this program to anyone,
the literature is enjoyable to read, the content is applicable, and this program will
you set you up for success. I also gained life-long friends and mentors who will help
me through the rest of my career."To be considered for admission, individuals interested in earning their M.Ed. at UVU must successfully complete all admission criteria:
