2024 Student Art Exhibition to open at the UVU Museum of Art on March 19

 

The UVU Museum of Art at Lakemount is pleased to present the 2024Student Art Exhibition on view from March 19 – April 23, 2024. This exhibition showcases the exceptional talent of 69 artists through nearly 100 works in a variety of media including ceramics, drawing, entertainment design, graphic design, illustration, painting, photography, and sculpture. This year marks our most competitive Student Art Exhibition yet as we received more than 400 artwork submissions.

 

Select students received special recognition for their work, chosen by exhibition juror Rita Wright; Dean of the School of Arts and Executive Director of the UVU Museum of Art Courtney Davis, UVU Provost and VP of Academic Affairs Dr. F. Wayne Vaught, and School of the Arts faculty and area coordinators.

About the Juror

 

Rita Wright, who recently retired as Director of the Springville Museum of Art, served as exhibition juror. Previously, she worked as Curator of Art and Artifacts at the LDS Church History Museum in Salt Lake City, and Academic Programs Coordinator for Museum Education at the Brigham Young University Museum of Art in Provo. Wright received her Ph.D. in European History with Ancient and Art History minors from the University of Utah, and she has an undergraduate degree in Theatre and Film and a master’s degree in Humanities from Brigham Young University. Wright currently serves on numerous local, state, and national boards, including the Office of Museum Services, Utah State Division of Arts & Museums and the Springville City Arts Commission.

 

Visiting the Museum

 

An opening reception will take place on Tuesday, March 19 from 3:00 – 9:00 p.m. Visitors are asked to reserve their timed entry admission at https://bit.ly/UVUMOAtimedentry. Due to parking limitations at the museum, a shuttle van will be operating between the museum and the Gunther Trades building and the Noorda Center parking lot on the main campus every half hour between 3:00 and 9:00 p.m. There will also be special opportunities for high school students and their families to view the exhibition and interact with student artists on April 9 and April 23. The Student Art Exhibition is one of three exhibitions on view concurrently at the UVU Museum of Art. Works from the museum’s Fulton Collection are on display in the Parlor while paintings from the Bastian Family Collection adorn the hallway of the former residence. Artwork by Utah artist Jeanne Leighton-Lundberg Clarke is also on view in the Laycock Gallery.

 

Museum hours are Tuesday from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The museum will host First Friday on April 3rd with extended hours from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
