UVU’s commencement features 5,953 graduates, including three 69-year-olds, and The 5 Browns

   

Utah Valley University celebrated the awarding of 6,485 degrees during its 78th Commencement Exercises on Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the UCCU Events Center.

A total number of 5,953 graduates received 353 certificates/diplomas, 2,237 associate degrees, 3,639 bachelor’s degrees, graduate certificates and 250 master’s degrees. (Some graduates received more than one degree/diploma or certificate.) 

Utah Valley University graduates represent 29 Utah counties, 48 states and territories, and 41 countries. 1,406 are the first college graduates in their families. The youngest of the Class of 2019 received an associate degree at the age of 16. UVU’s oldest graduates are three 69-year-olds.

The most populated areas of study for the Class of 2019 are university studies, behavioral science, business management, aviation science, accounting and nursing.

The 5 Browns, a critically acclaimed and award-winning sibling piano ensemble, delivered the keynote address through music and word. Each of the 5 Browns also received an honorary doctorate of Fine Arts and Humanities. Honorary doctorates were also awarded to Dr. K. Newell Dayley (honorary doctorate of Fine Arts and Humanities) and publisher and civic leader Jeanette Bennett (honorary doctorate of Business).

Convocations for UVU's individual colleges and schools were held on Friday, May 3.
