UVU Welcomes New Member of the Board of Trustees

OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University introduced a new member of its Board of Trustees during a recent meeting, as Scott M. Smith was sworn in on August 15, 2019. He joins the board as one of 10 trustees and will sit on the Board’s Audit Committee.

“I am absolutely delighted to have Scott as the newest member of the UVU Board of Trustees,” said President Astrid S. Tuminez. “He has a deep love for UVU and our integrated dual mission. He brings a rich experience in academia to the Board that will richly inform the critical decisions we make about academic programs and student support.

Dr. Smith taught marketing research at Brigham Young University for 30 years, from 1981 to 2011. He also taught at the University of Oregon. He received a doctorate in marketing from Penn State University in 1979, and he is the father of Ryan Smith, the co-founder of Qualtrics.

The UVU Board of Trustees is the governing board of the university, advises the president, and works to give visibility to the mission of the university. Each trustee is appointed by the governor and then confirmed by the Utah State Senate to serve a four-year term.

R. Duff Thompson currently serves as the chair of the board.
