Pardon Our Dust: Sorensen Student Center August 21 Update

Big-D Construction has won the contractor bid for the Sorensen Student Center (SC). Demolition will begin immediately and will affect pedestrian access to both the first and second floors of the SC.

   

 

Big-D Construction has won the contractor bid for the Sorensen Student Center (SC). Demolition will begin immediately and will affect pedestrian access to both the first and second floors of the SC.

For redirected pedestrian walkways, please refer to the map at the bottom of the article.

SC first floor:

  • Courtyard access will be closed.
  • The food court hallway will be under construction with a temporary pedestrian hallway installed for access to eateries.
  • The interior concourse (between the food court and the Losee Center) will be closed.
  • The food court restrooms will be closed.
  • The exterior entrance (in the Student Life Plaza) will have a pedestrian tunnel to access the SC North entrance (near the Center for Social Impact) 

SC second floor:

  • The exterior concourse (between the Losee Center and the Pope Science Building) will be closed. Foot traffic will be redirected through the parking garage.
  • The exterior entrance to Student Health Services (in the Student Life Plaza) will be closed.
  • Student Health Services will remain open.
  • The food court will remain open.

Stairs and elevators:

  • The stairs and elevator by the food court (closest to Costa Vida and Subway) will be closed.
  • The stairs by the food court (closest to Sodalicious) will be closed.
  • The stairs and elevator by Campus Connection will be open.
  • The stairs and elevator by the Ragan Theater will be open.

In order for crews to access the construction site, 22 stalls in parking lot L13 (between the Student Life and Wellness Center and the Fulton Library) will be reserved for Big-D Construction.
