UVU Community,

Happy Halloween week! Under normal circumstances, masks on campus would be discouraged — this year, they are the norm to stay safe. Thank you for doing your part to reduce the level of transmission of COVID-19 by wearing your mask on campus, in public indoor settings, and outdoors when physical distancing is not feasible.

For your safety and that of your friends, family, and community, please consider avoiding high-risk activities including traditional trick-or-treating, large costume parties, and Halloween activities held indoors. For ideas on safer ways to celebrate Halloween this year, check out CDC resources.

With most of Utah at a high-risk level for transmission of COVID-19, the safest way to celebrate Halloween (and other holidays for the next few months) is with your immediate family/household members. If you choose to celebrate with others, it’s important to follow and practice COVID-19 safety guidelines established by the state for transmission levels in our area — wear a face mask, physical distance, limit social gatherings to 10 or fewer people, and frequently wash your hands. Please stay at home when sick or instructed to quarantine or isolate. If you are exposed or become ill, we encourage you to fill out a self-reporting form. It will allow us to assist you and isolate cases on campus.

As a reminder, the university continues to operate with event restrictions to help us “Stay Safe to Stay Open.” These restrictions include limiting casual social gatherings to no more than 10 people with masks worn and physical distancing. Unfortunately, this means the disruption of traditional holiday social gatherings across the university. Please find creative ways to socialize and share holiday joy with through cards, phone calls, messages, Teams activities, drive-up or drive-in events, etc.

As challenging as these disruptions may be to our traditions and holiday celebrations, UVU remains committed to ensuring the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and our community. Thank you for being part of that effort.
