Eight cadets in the UVU ROTC program were commissioned as officers in the United States Army during the commissioning ceremony held at the Roots of Knowledge Bingham Gallery at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 11. Half of these cadets, now lieutenants, will be entering active duty service, while the other half will be going on to serve in the National Guard or Reserve.

“These cadets, now lieutenants, are beginning careers in an exciting field in their chosen branch. We wish them all luck and success in their future endeavors, and it was a pleasure to have them in our program,” said Major Spencer Randle, assistant professor of military science in the ROTC program.

The ceremony featured remarks from Randle and Lieutenant Colonel Seth Miller, professor of military science in the Service First Battalion. The cadets took an oath of office and were granted command authority. Additionally, cadets received rank pins from their families. They also received their first salute from the non-commissioned officer of their choice. Cadets also graduated with the rest of UVU’s Class of 2021 on Friday, May 7.
