Tech, science, and music-renaissance columnist, author, and “explainer” David Pogue will give the Utah Valley University Presidential Lecture on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. in the Vallejo Grand Auditorium in the Keller Building on UVU’s Orem Campus.

Pogue is nationally known for his wide array of interests and several areas of expertise, especially explaining technology, its future, and how it will affect society. Wired cofounder Kevin Kelly called him “one of the world’s best explainers.”

He is a New York Times bestselling author who has written or co-written more than 120 books, a six-time Emmy winner for his stories on “CBS Sunday Morning,” where he has been a tech-correspondent since 2002, a five-time TED speaker, was a weekly New York Times tech columnist from 2000 to 2013, and now writes the “Crowdwise” feature for The Times’s “Smarter Living” section.

“David Pogue is the expert ‘entertainer-explainer’ in all things high tech,” said UVU President Astrid S. Tuminez. “His lectures are funny, fast-paced, entertaining, and educational, and he is known for accompanying himself on the piano when he sings his tech-industry song parodies like ‘Don’t Cry For Me, Cupertino.’ Whether you are a student or work in tech, you won’t want to miss David.”

His books include dozens in the “Missing Manual” tech series, which he created in 1999; six books in the “For Dummies” line (including Macs, Magic, Opera, and Classical Music); two novels (one for middle-schoolers); three bestselling “Pogue's Basics” book series of tips and shortcuts (on tech, money, and life); and, in 2021, “How to Prepare for Climate Change.”

The lecture is free and open to students, faculty, staff, and the public online and in-person. Free seats can be reserved at https://www.uvu.edu/president/events.html to see Pogue live in the auditorium. Livestreaming can be accessed by visiting the same web page.

The Presidential Lecture Series is sponsored by the Office of the President and the Office of Engaged Learning. International scholars, experts, and talents are invited to speak to the UVU faculty, staff, and students to enhance the academic exchange on campus.
