The Utah Valley University (UVU) Women's Lacrosse team completed the 2022 season at the highest level in program history, becoming first-time regional champions and placing fourth while earning several awards at the 2022 Women’s Collegiate Lacrosse Associates (WCLA) National Championships Showcase in Round Rock, Texas on May 7.

Ranked number one in the WCLA Division II National Top 20 after their regular season, UVU entered as the top seed in the four-day competition. Every game resulted in three tightly scored games, starting with an overtime win and ending with two last-second losses.

“This season was filled with ups and downs,” said first-team All-American Kennedy Richards. “However, it’s been my favorite year by far. This team has a ton of talent — I’m excited to see how next year goes.”

Four of UVU's players earned a place on the All-American first team, including Eliza Jorgensen, Maya Lightfoot, Shea Munger, and Kennedy Richards. The team also earned several WCLA awards, including:

  • Jenn Eames Award (National Team of the Year)
  • Amtahcha Award (National Player of the Year): Maya Lightfoot
  • National Attacker of the Year: Maya Lightfoot
  • National Midfielder of the Year: Shea Munger

The Amtahcha Award, earned by Maya Lightfoot, recognizes the top WCLA player from each division who exhibits good sportsmanship, excels in the classroom, and earns first-team All-American honors.

“I am extremely grateful to be able to follow my academic and career dreams, along with my being able to continue to play the sport I love at UVU,” said sophomore Lightfoot, winner of three awards. “I could not have been luckier to have met this amazing team and have made lifelong best friends. I am excited for what's to come.”

Every team member interviewed expressed this same excitement and hope for next year’s team and season.

“This definitely was a challenging season, but we pushed through and worked together,” said Eliza Jorgenson. “The team’s filled with talent. I’m hyped to see the team grow and move on to next season.”
