Utah Valley University (UVU) Recreation and Wellness’ Beauty Beyond the Mirror event has received the Campus Rec Innovative Program Award at the NIRSA 2026 Annual Conference, held in National Harbor, Maryland.

The national recognition honors the department’s forward-thinking initiative designed to promote self-acceptance, body positivity, and holistic wellness among students. In its second year, the program has already made a meaningful impact on campus culture by creating inclusive spaces for reflection, education, and connection.

“Through Beauty Beyond the Mirror, we share the message that our worth is not defined by appearance and that we are more than a body,” said Wellness Programs Director Kerri Scott. “This yearly event brings our campus and community together to practice self-love and compassion while honoring our bodies for what they allow us to do.”

Beauty Beyond the Mirror encourages participants to explore wellness beyond physical appearance by engaging in interactive workshops, reflective activities, and discussions focused on mental health, self-worth, and media influence. The event brings together campus partners and student voices to challenge societal beauty standards and foster a more supportive, empowering environment.

The Campus Rec Innovative Program Award recognizes outstanding and original programs that advance the mission of collegiate recreation and wellness. UVU’s selection highlights its commitment to addressing emerging student needs and prioritizing a comprehensive approach to health and wellness. NIRSA is the membership association for leaders in collegiate recreation.
