Hordes of eager young learners from local school districts flooded the halls of the Liberal Arts Building on April 5 for the ninth annual Brain Fair, hosted by the Utah Valley University (UVU) Psychology and Counseling Department.
The Brain Fair provided an opportunity for children of all ages to learn about the brain, neurons, and human senses through hands-on learning activities set up by UVU undergraduate students under psychology faculty mentorship.
Students witnessed a real human brain, saw a demonstration of neurons communicating, and got to build a model of a neuron.
Psychology student Shonda Ewell volunteered because she wanted to share her excitement for the brain with young students.
“I think having events at UVU, such as this, shows that this college cares about providing fun family get-togethers where they can learn something new or share their knowledge with others,” Ewell said. “It helps build confidence and knowledge in our future generations and helps connect them to people who can help them achieve their dreams/goals they may have.”
