The UVU Spirit Squad showcased their talent and hard work at the UDA National Dance Competition at Walt Disney World Resort from January 17-19, earning first place in Division 1 Hip-Hop and fourth place in Division 1 Jazz. They competed against 16 teams in hip-hop and 30 teams in jazz while securing their place as one of the top higher-education dance teams in the country.

The UCA & UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship is recognized as the most prestigious collegiate national championship in the country. College cheerleading and dance teams traveled to compete at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex to fight for national championships. Over 300 teams across 46 states joined the competition.  With teams from across the country competing, they celebrated both the art and athletics of cheerleading and dance teams.

The competition is often a unique experience for participants, especially UVU’s teams."Competing at nationals has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences of my life,” Brookie Gabler, UVU Dance Team president, shared. “It has pushed me to new levels both as a dancer and as a person. Hard work, grit, and a strong team mindset are what led us to success. The preparation process has taught me how to handle pressure, stay committed, and trust myself, my coaches, and my teammates.”

Gabler stepped into the role of president this year, which added to the team’s personal and professional growth.

"Being a role model for my incredible team has reinforced the importance of leading by example, staying composed under pressure, and making sure everyone feels valued and motivated,” Gabler said.

Kati Marsing, UVU’s Spirit Squad director, expressed immense pride in the team's accomplishments."Our UVU Spirit Squad represented our university with incredible talent, inspiring routines, and tremendous class at the UDA National Competition in Orlando. Their hard work paid off in big ways, and we are thrilled with the results. It is a pleasure and an honor to work with our amazing staff, coaches, and students over the past six months to pull off incredible accomplishments like we saw in Orlando.”

The UVU Cheer and Dance Teams are directly tied to the Department of Student Leadership and Involvement. Through the competition, they develop leadership skills to contribute to Utah’s community by showing exceptional results, hard work, and resilience in their art.
