The Utah Valley University (UVU) Rodeo team raised funds for its new practice facility by supporting Skijoring Utah as it kicks off its 2026 Frontier Tour in Heber, Utah, on January 16, 2026. Originating in Scandinavia, skijoring requires skiers to demonstrate speed, agility, and precision as they are towed by a horse.
For the past two years, UVU Rodeo has assisted Skijoring Utah by maintaining the snow course’s jumps, gates, and rings. UVU’s rodeo team is actively fundraising for a new arena to be built on university property in Payson, Utah. The team hopes to break ground on its first permanent facility in 2028, marking 60 years since the team’s founding.
UVU Rodeo will also implement a rodeo board to help set long-term goals for the program, secure and develop resources, and support expansion. Brandon Francis, co-owner of Skijoring Utah, has committed to serving on the board. The collaboration has enabled UVU Rodeo to reach a wider audience and increase support.
Earlier this year, UVU received the Carnegie Community Engagement Classification, acknowledging UVU’s commitment to its community — an essential element of UVU Rodeo’s relationship with Skijoring Utah.
To support competitors and UVU Rodeo, please join us tomorrow at 10 am for the second day of skijoring. Additional information and tickets are available at proskijor.com.
