UVU Presidential Lecture Series to Feature Economist and Author Dr. Dambisa Moyo

Utah Valley University (UVU) welcomes Dr. Dambisa Moyo, named by Time magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world, as a presidential guest speaker.

   

Utah Valley University (UVU) welcomes Dr. Dambisa Moyo, named by Time magazine as one of the top 100 most influential people in the world, as a presidential guest speaker. 

Dr. Moyo is the author of four New York Times bestselling books, including Dead Aid: Why Aid Is Not Working and How There Is a Better Way for Africa, How the West Lost: Fifty Years of Economic Folly and the Stark Choices Ahead, and Winner Take All: China’s Race for Resources and What it Means for the Rest of the World. Her most recent books, How Boards Work: And How They Can Work Better in a Chaotic World and Edge of Chaos: Why Democracy Is Failing to Deliver Economic Growth and How to Fix It, will be the focus of her presidential lecture at UVU on Friday, October 1, at 11:30 a.m. The lecture will be held in the Clarke Building, room 101, and is free to all faculty, staff, and students. A livestream option will also be available, but in-person attendance is encouraged.

“Dr. Moyo is an expert thinker, and her thoughts influence decision-makers around the world. Part of going to a university is learning how to think critically and challenge your own beliefs,” President Astrid S. Tuminez said. “Our students will greatly benefit from the words of Dr. Moyo because she can help them understand that their thoughts have the potential to change the world.” President Tuminez is also proud to call Dr. Moyo her friend.

As a top-tier trusted advisor on macroeconomics, geopolitics, and technology themes, Dr. Moyo is frequently sought after for interviews by The Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Bloomberg, C-Span, and others. She serves on several global corporate boards, including 3M Corporation, Chevron, Condé Nast, and the University of Oxford’s Endowment Investment Committee. She worked at the World Bank and Goldman Sachs for nearly a decade.

In her spare time, Dr. Moyo enjoys training for and running marathons.
