Navigating COVID on Campus

As we continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19, we recognize that the omicron variant has presented new and unique challenges.

Dear Colleagues,

We want to thank you again for all your efforts to help our spring semester get off to a good start. As we continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19, we recognize that the omicron variant has presented new and unique challenges. The spike in cases in the state, region, and on campus is expected to last for approximately two more weeks.

We are working hard to balance the health and wellness of our campus community and the needs of our students to make meaningful progress in their educational goals. The majority of our students have expressed that they would like as much of an in-person university experience as possible in an environment that is as safe as possible. While not mutually exclusive, these desires can sometimes conflict. We ask for your patience and flexibility during the next few weeks.

Temporary remote learning and work adjustments should be made on a case-by-case basis. Department chairs, deans, and supervisors will coordinate any academic or remote work adjustments. If you have unique situations caused by COVID, please talk with your chair or supervisor to make arrangements. Any adjustments should last no more than a week at a time. We ask that you continue to have open lines of communication and be as flexible as possible with students, as well as faculty and staff.

It’s important to remember that the spike in cases is expected to drop in the near future. While we may need to make some adjustments in the short term, we should support and encourage our students to continue progressing through the semester and beyond. The services they need and expect on campus will remain available, and we will continue to do our best to provide a safe learning environment.

Our university has successfully navigated the evolving nature of this pandemic, and we will continue to do so as we remain focused on our mission to support students while demonstrating exceptional care, exceptional accountability, and exceptional results.

Sincerely,
